Brass Tube Common uses
Brass tube has many uses, most commonly we find customers buying smaller tubes for Decorative and art pieces. Mid size thin wall tubes are popular for lighting manufacturers, furniture makers and additionally fluid transfer applications just to name a few. Thick walled brass tube is most commonly used in engineering applications. Another interesting use is for musical instruments due to good acoustic properties. We have been selling brass Tube at John Keatley Metals since 1896!
Further requirement
If you require polishing of brass products bought from us we are happy to help and can send material straight to local polishers to save you time.
Furthermore we can recommend MA Polishing who are a local business to us.
Basic CZ108 info
Sometimes referred as basis brass, CZ108 (CW508L) is a popular grade of brass due to its hot and cold working capabilities. For this reason it is used for general purpose and simple forming operations, it offers very good corrosion resistance in normal working environments and good machinability at slow speeds. CZ108 generally features good hot and cold formability with an impressive combination of strength and ductility.
The Chemical composition of CZ108 is as follows:
- Copper (Cu) 62.00 – 64.00 %
- Aluminium (Al) 0.0 – 0.05 %
- Iron (Fe) 0.0 – 0.10 %
- Lead (Pb) 0.0 – 0.10 %
- Nickel (Ni) 0.0 – 0.30 %
- Others (Total) 0.0 – 0.20 %
- Tin (Sn) 0.0 – 0.10 %
- Zinc (Zn) Balance
Basic CZ121 info
Known as CZ121 or CW614N it is commonly used for machining. It includes Lead which therefore improves machinability. The lead is finely dispersed throughout the microstructure of the material which acts as not only a lubricant but also a chip breaker. Most commonly used in machining applications and a variety of engineering uses. Also, due to its colour and appearance CZ121 is used in many art and decorative applications. CZ121 furthermore has good corrosion resistance and strength.
The Chemical composition of CZ121 is as follows:
- Zinc (Zn) balance
- Aluminium (Al) 0.05% max
- Others (Total) 0.2% max
- Iron (Fe) 0.3% max
- Nickel (Ni) 0.3% max
- Tin (Sn) 0.3% max
- Lead (Pb) 2.5 – 3.5%
- Copper (Cu) 57 – 59%
